Malachite is mainly used as an ornamental stone and has been known for thousands of years. Early civilisations wore Malachite amulets to ward off danger and illness.  These days we use Malachite as mineral specimens, as polished Malachite carvings for its ornamental value and in Malachite jewellery. Industrially Malachite is used as a minor copper ore. Malachite is also used as a pigment for paint to restore old paintings (where Malachite was used to produce different tones of green).

Malachite is widely distributed in the world but seldom occurs in large quantities or massive formations. Some of the finest Malachite deposits have been found in Australia, Siberia, Tsumeb (Namibia), Katanga (Democratic Republic of Congo). It is in this country, the Democratic Republic of Congo where we, at From Africa, have our Malachite mining operation. More specifically, in the copper mining areas of Lubumbashi (Kipushi, L’ Etoile and Luiswishi mines) Likasi (Shinkolobea and Kamoya mines) and Kowelzi (Kamoto, Mashamba, Musonoi and Mutoshi mines).

We wholesale to Malachite and other copper based specimens such as Chysocolla, Plancheite, Cornetite etc. per Kilograms, all mixed and selected one by one so our client get a good assorted sample of all of them. We also follow the preferences of our clients when we select the specimens for packing.
